چکیده

With changes in hormonal status, certain changes occur in the amount or distribution of adenosine triphosphatase, glucose 6-phosphatase and xanthine oxidase activities in rat-liver cytoplasm (Reid, O'Neal & Lewin, 1956). These studies have now been extended to include succinic dehydrogenase, deoxyribonuclease, and the two ribonucleases which appear to be present in liver-mitochondrial fractions (Lamirande, Allard, Costa & Cantero, 1954; Roth, 1954a). Since adrenalectomy leads to a rise in the amount of ribonucleic acid (RNA) in the 'supernatant fraction' (Reid, 1955, 1956), and since the administration of cortisone leads to certain changes in the amount of 'polymerized' RNA in liver cytoplasm (Lowe, 1955), a study has also been made of hormonal effects on the amount of 'polymerized' RNA in the supernatant fraction.

Effect of growth hormone on ribonucleic acid metabolism. 2. Effect of growth-hormone administration on the activities of 5'-nucleotidase, adenase, guanase and xanthine oxidase.

Talwar, Panda, Sarin & Tolani (1961) have found that growth hormone causes an increase in the specific activity of 32p in RNA of cytoplasmic fractions, whereas the total RNA content of these fractions diminishes in comparison with normal levels. Stevens & Reid (1956) have reported that hypophysectomy or adrenalectomy causes an increase in the activities of acid deoxyribonuclease and acid ribonu...

Succinic Acid Monoethyl Ester and Metformin Regulates Carbohydrate Metabolic Enzymes and Improves Glycemic Control in Streptozotocin-Nicotinamide Induced Type2 Diabetic Rats

Objective. Succnic acid mono ethyl ester (EMS) was recently proposed as an insulinotropic agent for the treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. In the present study the effect of EMS and Metformin on the activities of carbohydrate metabolic enzymes in streptozotocinnicotinamide induced type 2 diabeteic model was investigated. Methods. EMS were injected intraperitonially at doses 2...

Interaction between growth hormone and insulin in the regulation of lipoprotein metabolism in the rat.

The importance of insulin for the in vivo effects of growth hormone (GH) on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism was investigated by examining the effects of GH treatment of hypophysectomized (Hx) female rats with and without concomitant insulin treatment. Hypophysectomy-induced changes of HDL, apolipoprotein (apo)E, LDL, and apoB levels were normalized by GH treatment but not affected by insulin t...

The Surgery of the Endocrine System

Metastatic cancer may be treated either by excision of endocrine glands (surgical deprivation) or administration of hormones (addition therapy). This article deals only with deprivation. Addition will only be considered as it directly affects deprivation and not as a method of therapy in its own right. The purpose of surgical deprivation is to terminate the production of the specific hormones e...
